Foodie Buddies

Nov 05 2008

Variety is the spice of life. Same goes with foodie friends. There’s not one person that I can hang out with that enjoys everything that I like. Or maybe there is but with time and distance constraints and such, it’s kinda hard to have one foodie buddy accompany me in all my foodie exploits.

But it’s not hard to find kakis (buddies) for separate foodie outings. These are the people whose ears perk up and hands go flying up whenever I mention the following words:

  • Mushrooms
  • Coffee
  • Pork
  • Wine and dine
  • Japanese
  • Seafood
  • Steamboat
  • Italiano
  • Sinful desserts
  • Western
  • Budget makan
  • Indian
  • Strange-never-tried-before stuff

To all my foodies buddies, you know who you are. Thank you for enriching my life and it’s true – food tastes better when you are in good company who enjoys every morsel like you do.

  1. i used to have a foodie buddy and we would try new makan places almost every weekend! but she’s now on diet, for a long period of time already. i thought it was easy to find a new makan buddy, because i thought everyone loves eating! but i was so wrong…people eat, but that does not necassarily means they love trying out new food. oh girl, this entry of yours just made me missed my buddy…(but i know i’ll find a new buddy….) :D

  2. Hey, I’m excited about all the above except for in the seafood column I can’t eat lobster or shrimp, I don’t know what a makan is and I don’t know what you mean by Steamboat.;)

Then there is that little “thousands of mile between us” thing. Aside from that though, consider me your soul-foodie!

  3. Hi Mark, makan = eat, and steamboat is what you call a hot pot in your part of the world.

  4. Tagged…. come and see blog

  5. Hirza, awwww, yes, you will find your buddy. Just hang in there and keep doing what you love – be it on yr own or with new friends.

Mark, hee hee, food for soul is also very nourishing and nutritious. And you can’t have too many buddies in that category :)

Ms. Puzzles, okie, me go check.

  6. Tim – Thanks! Count me in.:)

    Coolcat,
you know you’ve got a spot at the table on hold here whenever you’re ready! (By the way, tonight I’m making Saffron fish soup with Mahi Mahi! I have no idea how it will come out because the recipe just came to me and I’ll be improvising as I go, but I’m trying anyway. Worse comes to worse some friends of mine just returned from a cruise of the Bahamas and they brought a Rum cake for me; that’ll make a fine dinner if I can’t eat the soup. 8-D ) )

  7. Wow, sounds like an exotic dish! What’s Mahi Mahi, btw? And how did the soup turn out? :)

  8. It was surprisingly good for my first attempt at fish soup. I bought som Cod and will try again this week. Here’s Mahi Mahi: http://www.ocean.udel.edu/mas/seafood/mahi.html

By the way, I was surprised to find frog’s legs at our local market so you know I had to buy some! I’ll let you know how they taste soon. ;)
