Thrifty Vs. Stingy

Can anyone tell me what’s the difference between being thrifty and being stingy?
My brains are a little fried today.
Maybe it’s because I’m shell-shocked by this and this.
Updates: Nianci has put it well, I think. Thriftiness is being careful on what you spend. It’s taking time to think about a major purchase and seeing whether you really need something before getting it. Stinginess, on the other hand, is a state not sharing anything with anyone – treating good friends once in a while. It’s the opposite of generosity.
So, Paulos, does that answer your question, bro? :)

Hmmm…I guess for me, thrifty means not swiping your credit card for that dress that would make me look a bomb on a whim but to wait, think about it, let it simmer for a few days or so and count my finances to see if i can really afford it or not.
It also means parking illegally (though not recommended). I have been parking at the housing area oppossite my office for the past two months to save on parking which costs me about RM 5 per day!…but i finally ‘kena’ saman RM 50 yday for parking illegally.
Or, limiting myself to only maybe one (or two) =p, good expensive restaurant meals per month.
Stingy…means when you go out with your friends, you have never offered to pick up the tab for anything even once or you have not bought your colleagues even a packet of nasi lemak (and not ask them to pay you back) even after 5 yrs there.
Conclusion: Thrifty = careful with how you spend Stingy = willing to spend on self but not others..
Hope this helps and not make more confused! =P
Wow, clear distinctions between the two. Good examples they are, too. Thanks, girl!
thrifty = the unwillingness to spend more than needed for something.
stingy = the unwillingness to spend.
yay, my first comment! (i think. can’t remember whether i’ve ever commented here. heh)
Marianne Lim! Is that you?? Yaaay, you finally commented! Heheh, such crisp and concise answers!
Sorry about the shock. I’m sad too :( I don’t want to leave ireneQ.com! But at least I still have my precious archives, though purged of all mentions of my name :(
No matter what, you will always be my blogging inspiration *HUGS*
