“Woi, where do you suggest we bring the birthday girls? Same old place boring lar,” Ruthie asked me the other day.
After conferring with bezzie, we decided to go to funnest place to have a decently rowdy birthday party in – TGIF. As most TGIF customers would know, the highly energetic staff would perform a special presentation for peeps celebrating their birthdays. And in this respect they did not disappoint.
The three birthday girls did not suspect what was coming upon them. When a barrage waiting crew came upon them, they blinked in innocent surprise. Their jaws gaped in horror when they were requested to stand on their respective chairs.
“Dowan!” Jude said in delighted shock.
“Ok, you have a choice – stand on your chairs or give a two-minute speech,” said the dashing cowboy waiter.
Jude chose to give a speech on behalf of the three birthday girls and was duly handed a tall pepper dispenser. She grasped the contraption feelingly and gave thanks to her parents for making her and to everyone who has been a blessing in her life. Everyone clapped enthusiastically and she was rewarded with a chocolate cake (not free though!)

“Well done,” the cowboy said. “Now, how would u like us to sing your birthday song? Backwards or forwards?”
Of course we said backwards. Forwards is such a common occurence. Nothing special. And we watched excitedly at what they would sing.
To our amazement, the whole crew turned their backs on the birthday girls and proceeded to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ in the most normal manner.
Apada.
And then the fun began where they sang their signature song and stomped happily on their feet. We couldn’t hear the words clearly except for this sentence “You three are getting older!”
That only added a few more wrinkles to my friends as they hollered in indignation.

What on earth are they doing??
The soon ended and birthday wishes concluded the fun presentation.

The whole place was packed. On a week night. A very strange phenomena. Until we saw the waiters performing the birthday thingamajic to quite a number of tables that night. So BeerBrat was right. There are a lot of August babies in our midst :)
To Kat, Jude and Grace – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
