Being That Someone

Jul 31 2006 Published by coolcat under Thoughts

Sometimes when you go through something so tough you feel you could die, you couldn’t help but ask God, “Why??!”

Sometimes when things don’t go as you have planned – again and again and yet again – you wonder, what’s up with all that? Why is God allowing you to waste your time?

Sometimes when you need an encouragement, a hope, a sign, anything – and you get it – but then things fall flat anyway, you think, “Was that really a sign? Or was I that desperate to interpret everything as a sign?”

And sometimes when you find yourself sitting before a distraught someone – battling all of the above – and you can understand, relate and feel the depth of their emotions because you have been there before. And now everything that you’ve been through, everything that seemed absurd and flawed suddenly made sense. You remembered that when you were in need, someone who cared was there to help pull you through. Who gave you strength when you have none.

Sometimes you finally understood why you’ve been through what you’ve been through.

So that you can be that someone.

Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve got a brand new toy but just don’t have the time to play with it to your hearts’ content? That other more ‘important’ things in life have better claim on your time?

To make it worse, this toy is a complicated creature to learn but the things

Why My Index Finger Hurts

Jul 28 2006 Published by coolcat under Prattle

Ok, people. It’s Friday. Busy weekend ahead. A great week has just passed. Looking forward to another great week ahead armed with a new toy I just acquired. All shall be unveiled soon :D

Till then, it’s quiz time!

Question: Why does CC’s index finger hurt?

  • Too much posing

  • Working too hard

  • Octavia and Gracie got bored of using only their pinkies in their gold digging activities.

Knock yourselves out. TGIF, everyone!

My New Year Resolution ~ Pose with a cat

Jul 27 2006 Published by coolcat under Cat Stuff

See these pics? Can you see anything remotely wrong with them?

I’m a cat person. I love felines. But most of my friends own dogs. Cute ones who are great posers. So that’s how I ended up with quite a few pics of them.

I’m in grave danger of not fulfilling my new year resolution.

Worst of all, I’m in danger of losing my nickname. I don’t wanna be known as Cooldawg. That’ll be so… wrong.

Cat owners please help me! I’ve got a deadline to meet.

When a door closes, a window opens

As far as phone interviews go, this one was a disaster. He guessed he just wasn’t geeky enough for her. He should have boiled his cobweb-ridden textbooks in water and eaten them in preparation of the interview. He should have… He should have… He should have…

Bah.

“So, what exactly is it that you are good at?” The sarcastic tone of the interviewer’s voice was still ringing in his burning ears.

Talk about having your pride torn into itsy bitsy shreds. Man, she was good at that.

Ok, think positive. At least it was a very informative interview. He learned a lot of things from her. Things that he can implement in his work culture.

Oh, but drat it all. Rejection still stings. He could feel an L looming upon his forehead.

Nothing left to do but to go get some sleep and hope for a better tomorrow.

He woke up the next day feeling unemotional. Yesterday’s phone interview seemed like a bad dream. He remembered every word that was said and vowed to beef up on his skills there. Who knows, she may call again and by then, he’d be ready for her. Grrrr…

“John, can I see for a moment?” his boss asked the moment he stepped into the office.

“Sure,” John said and settled comfortably on the chair. Four years. That was how long he had known the boss and worked for the company. Heck, there was no perfect company but the firm had been good to him all these years. Still, it can’t be denied that he had been feeling restless lately. That he had outgrown the company somehow. Like there was more out there for him to learn and immerse himself into.

His boss began the conversation in his usual gentle manner. What he said completely blew John’s mind.

“We’re starting a branch in Bangkok. And we need are thinking of someone to head that branch for us. Someone whom we trust. Someone who’s been in the company and knows our ways of management well. That someone is you.”

It was then that John knew that everything happened for a reason. And that rejection was not such a bad thing, after all.

Rather Be Solo Than With a Bozo

Jul 26 2006 Published by coolcat under Lurve

It’s a repetition of the same old story. Just different players. Boy meets girl. Boy hooks up with girl. Girl wants to go the next level of commitment after a few years had rolled by. Boy is unsure of what he really wants. Boy gets stuck in second gear. Girl feels confused and rejected.

It’s a very sad situation. Perhaps worsened because it’s such a common occurence. I wished I had better news to give to my young friend. At least something other than, "Cut your losses NOW. Don’t waste any more time on this loser."

The reason she hung on for so long was because she believes he will change. A belief that has no basis, if you ask me. The man has a weak, selfish character. Not willing to give her the time of his day – not even when she needed him most – and she’s not the needy type. Her friends treat her better than he does. A diamond in the rough? I don’t think so. More like a dull, cheap, seedy stone that can never shine no matter how much you rub on it.

I think she saw some light after our conversation. She smiled when I said that it’s better to be solo than remain with a bozo.

She’s praying for strength to endure. I pray that she will see the facts of the situation as it is and for her to see his true heart. Not hoping that a pig’s ear will suddenly transform into a golden purse. That’s magic and we don’t believe in that now, do we?

Or maybe I’m wrong about him (and I hope I am) not being a diamond in the rough. In which case, I hope this guy wakes up soon and smell the roses before his long-suffering and lovely girlfriend walks out on him for good.

Eric & Li Ping Got Hitched!

Jul 24 2006 Published by coolcat under Friends, Lurve, Photos

Hot updates fresh from the paparazzi!

Apparently, the now famous Wedding Beetle was spotted on the highways of KL at noon on the day of the wedding. Reliable sources confirmed that this was indeed Eric and Li Ping.

Li Ping’s Wedding Beetle (as Merv puts it)

Eric and Li Ping – my two favourite rant buddies – finally got hitched after about 6 years of courtship. They are an amazing couple – the complete polar opposites of each other and yet because of their enduring love, they managed to overcome the odds to get to the point of saying ‘I do’.

I’ve been very privileged to be invited into their lives not too long ago. In that short space of time, we graduated quickly to become close buddies. Through them I learned that three’s a company. They’ve never made me feel like a lamp post in any of our outings. We have shared many rant and sharing sessions, working, shopping, praying, eating together and learned many things from each other.

I am greatly encouraged by their commitment to stick to each other through thick and thin. To put their hands to build a growing business together. And most of all, to open their lives so that it may bless the countless others whom they cross paths with.

The Ceremony @ St. Peter’s Anglican Church

Pink was the theme of the day. Truly representative of the bride – sweet, demure and feminine. Every one of the bridesmaid, MC, translator and even the groom wore pink.

The Groom in Pink

Choon and I greeted a gorgeous-looking Li Ping waiting at the small room outside the church entrance. She was calm and beaming in radiance. We then saw a nervous-looking Eric inside the church and greeted him with a hug. It was his big day! I felt a surge of happiness and pride gushed through me. My good ol’ buddy ol’ pal was getting hitched! And I’m going to witness his transition from a computer game-loving boy to a man of one wonderful wife. What an honour!

Pastor Jennifer officiated the ceremony. It was her first time, too. The church was very impressive with its lovely stained glass and classic decor. So impressive that the wedding guests were stunned into silence. You could literally hear a pin drop. And that added to poor Eric’s nervousness. Pastor Jennifer invited all of us to give the groom and the bride a round of applause to ease the tension of the whole place. After that, the ice was melted and the atmosphere became cosy and nice.

Pastor Jennifer knew there were a few jokers in the crowd who might pull a prank when this infamous question was asked: “If there is any reason why this man and this woman should not be joined together in holy matrimony, speak up now or forever hold your peace.” So she cautioned us not to add to the groom’s distress before asking the question solemnly. We looked around the church furtively and when no one spoke up, we could see Eric breathe out visibly in relief. Heh heh.

The Dinner @ Bangsar Seafood Garden

It was not surprising that their wedding dinner turned out to be a blast. Most of their friends have some facets of their character. Mainly of the wacky kind – with the exception of the person who’s blogging this, of course. Folks on Table 15 (my table) roared with laughter every few minutes or so once the table was filled. The food was great and I had a gorgeous and talented dude by my side. What a treat!

Liang and I just chillin’

You would have thought that my friends would have allowed this blogger to take her photos of foodies in peace. But no, look at all those disgustingly dirty chopsticks waiting to sink into the yummy dessert. Evil friends I have. Hmmmph!

I dedicate this to Ivan and Ken who mercilessly teased my blog during the dinner. See the resemblance? :P

And this must be my favourite pic of the night.

I hereby declare that thou art my slaves. Muahahaha

Or maybe it’s this one. Well, whichever it is, I just wanna wish my two cool buddies a wonderful and happy married life together. The journey has just begun!

More pics of the wedding here.

A special note of appreciation to my dearest bezzie for her magic touch upon my normally plain self. What would I do without you? *Hugs*

I Have Super Powers!

Jul 21 2006 Published by coolcat under Foodies

Pssst…. I just discovered that I have amazing super powers. It seems like whatever I wished to eat would come into being. It’s pretty simple, really. All I have to do is visualise what I want to savour and it appears without me having to cook it.

For all you doubters out there, here’s some proof: There I was, dying to eat fried rice yesterday afternoon. When I reached home last night, my dad had prepared a wonderful feast of fried rice. That’s just super duper cool, right?

image

Oh, you want more proof? Ok, the other day when I had a penchant for fried chicken wings, I looked at the menu at the shop I’m at and hey, presto – they had chicken wings! I’ll have you know that not many shops have chicken wings on their menu. So I placed my order and the wings came without me having to cook it. Sometimes, I amaze myself.

Well, ok the wings were a teeeney weeeney bit undercooked but hey, gimme a break. I’m still fine-tuning my newly acquired powers mar. Heh heh.

Now, to go get me a proper costume…

Everytime I Close My Eyes

Jul 20 2006 Published by coolcat under Poems

Everytime I close my eyes
I see you
I think I’m slowly
Going cuckoo

Every thought I think
Every word I say
Every breath I take
You are right there before me

What is this crazy connection between us?
I can’t see it
But I feel it
I know it’s there

We’ve just met
Mere strangers before
And yet you now fill
My every pore

It was hate at first sight
It took a while to get used to you
Till I discovered
There is so much of you to like

I can’t explain it
It’s befuddling, really
How I’ve come to depend on you
How you are so much part of me

There’s no use running
No point in escaping
I guess we are meant to be
For all eternity
