What’s With Australia??

Jun 27 2006

What’s this about Australia and my pals, huh? It seems that everyone who’s anyone is going there. It was barely one month ago that we met up before our dear friend Shirley flew to Melbourne. And now, we just had a farewell for another dear friend Emily who’s going to Melbourne in a couple of weeks’ time.

“So, who’s going to Melbourne next?” Uncle Pong asked.

“Not me!” I thought and said out loud. To be honest, I’m starting to feel very leary over Australia and the pull it has on my closest and dearest pals. And who can blame me? One of my oldest friends Kal is already residing in Sydney. There goes my faithful childhood friend and prayer partner. My bezzie will be following suit in a few months’ time. There goes my closest chum and partner in crime.

What’s the deal with Australia anyway? It’s just a land with kangaroos and koalas. Big deal. Malaysia got Orang Utans and Hornbills what. What’s more, here we have authentic Bah Kut Teh. And did I mention the sumptious Fried Kai Lan and Four Types of Mixed Vege dishes? Scrumptious!

Fried Kailan – can’t find it anywhere else wan!

Mixed vegetables

And the people, you’ve gotta love the bad drivers friendly, sweet and hospitable people that Malaysians are. We are Malaysia, truly Asia.

The warmth of these three Malaysians’ smiles will be forever imprinted in the deepest recesses of your memory. Really wan.

Anyway, in spite of all our efforts to lure Emily to stay on in Malaysia, she has made up her mind and had peace about her decision to move over there for at least a while. So, we decided to be supportive and happy for her. But not before we did this:

This is what happens to people who wants to migrate to Australia.

Rants aside, we are truly happy that God has made a way for Emily to be in Melbourne. It was not an easy decision to make but with every step she took, the path became clearer and clearer. May you achieve all that you ever hoped and longed for, dearie!

  2. Neo, not you too!

You would qualify to go if you fulfill their points system requirements. Can give it a try. But hor, why lar?

  3. i used to hate australia – cuz so many people close to me went there… and we were never that close anymore.

So i blame the country(!?) for stealing my pet-sister, my mates, and even my love! :-(

oh well, each of us have our own paths to travel – and like u, we shud be happy for our mates.

p/s – cheers for the nice food pics! me miss the fried kailan a lot!!!!

  4. Sigh… distance has a way of doing that to close friendships, eh?

Anyway, glad you liked the food pics. Come back and get yr fried kailan lar! :P

  5. For me.. if opportunities don’t open up here, there’s a country under the equator that would want to use my skill sets.

Somewhat ferrup with the lousy deal of opportunities I’m getting here.. “You’re over qualified, you’re under qualified, we’ll pay you below the going salary bracket… ” feels like this country and companies don’t need my skills.. so i’ll take my biz elsewhere.. who knows I might be going in a year or 2 from now.

That said, I’ll be back after acquiring skills and experiences to contribute back to this country.. it is after all.. HOME..
