There we were, three single friends out on an impromptu dinner. For some reason, the things that we plan out weeks in advance never seemed to materialise. When it comes to us with our busy, busy lives and clashing schedules, impromptu was the way to go.

“Hey, I’m suddenly free tonight. What about the rest of you?”

“I’m free.”

“Me, too.”

“Let’s goooo!”

The fourth and fifth friend could not make it. One because of distance. The other because of a date. Or rather, make that dates. Not too long ago, he had three dates within 24 hours with three different people.

For someone who had 47 criteria of an ideal date, he sure is going out a heck of a lot more than the three of us combined.

We three singletons compared notes. Each of us had roughly about the same amount of criteria. You could count them all with one maimed hand.

Oh, the unfairness of it all! We sighed. We shrugged. And then we wolfed down our meal and laughed our life stresses away. As usual, we had a blast of a time. Dateless or no, we were glad to have each other. And even when we start dating, we will still make it a point to meet regularly. After all, sweethearts may come and go. But true friends – they are forever.
