Merdeka

Aug 31 2005 Published by coolcat under Thoughts

Selamat Hari Kebangsaan.

Back To The Future

Aug 30 2005 Published by coolcat under Prattle

Back to the Future was one of my favourite trilogies while growing up. The best one of all was the first episode where Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) had the opportunity to go back into his parents’ past and make those two fall in love with each other. He had to. Else he would cease to exist.

You would think that one of the most memorable scenes of the movie that I can recall to great detail to this day would be the scene where Marty first got into the car and whizzed back to the past. Or when Marty’s mom (then a teenager) fell in love with him instead of his dad. Or when Marty was doing some cool moves on the electric guitar towards the end of the movie.

Marty and his young-again mom

But no, none of those scenes were etched forever into my memory. The scene of Marty McFly’s unusual sleeping position does. Sorry, couldn’t find any pics on this but might shoot one of my own.

This scene takes the cake. Maybe because it really is an odd position to sleep in. I would imagine the cramps Marty would experience when he wakes up the next morning.

But this morning, I didn’t have to imagine it anymore. For I found myself sprawled on my bed exactly like Marty McFly.

And boy, it does hurt when I woke up. My neck, upper arms and back were in pain when I moved.

Must have been that nightmare I had last night. Can’t recall what it was exactly but it did involve going back to my past. And seeing my mom in a frightening hair do .

I’m Glad That…

Aug 30 2005 Published by coolcat under Prattle

Man, what a looong and tiring day it has been. But to keep my spirits sweet and buoyant, I’m counting the things that I am grateful for. Today.

Here goes:

  1. I managed to stay awake and work today without consuming any coffee – What a feat! Which is why I feel like I’m about to crash after blogging about this.
  2. I’ve gone thru a crappy day but I’ve got great friends who cheered me up real good - My colleagues and bosses must be wondering why I walked around today with a perennial grin on my sleepy face. And not only today, but over the past few weeks even. Thanks, folks for the jokes, vanity boosters, listening ear and support given. You know who you are *hugs*
  3. I don’t have a mean boyfriend – I always believe that having no boyfriend is a 100 x better than having a mean one. Besides, who needs a crappy fellow when one has got great chums? Peh.
  4. I’ve got warm and yummy home-cooked food and loving parents to go back home to – Nothing like home to knock some wholesomeness back into you!
  5. I still have ten fingers and ten toes – I mean, people lose them every so often these days with all the street mugging going around. Must be grateful for all things big or small mar.

Ok, you can tell I’m rambling off-tangent now (as if that’s not my signature trait!). Definitely time to head home. Nite, folks! I’m going to be a good girl and sleep early tonight. Again.

Black Monday

Aug 29 2005 Published by coolcat under At The Office

As Weisguy so wisely predicted, I had difficulty sleepy around 10pm yesterday. After tossing and turning and reading and trimming my nails and eating some chocs, I finally drifted off to sleep at around midnight.

Managed to get our butts to work at around 8.02am and the meeting started soon after. It was one long meeting – about 2 hours or so. At some monotonous points, I found myself daydreaming just to keep awake. Man, I really need that cup of coffee .

The thing is, I realised that having to start one day in a week earlier than usual doesn’t just affect one single night. It’s a whole lifestyle change. You can’t just expect your body to obey you if you so decide to sleep early on Sunday night. The body has to be gradually trained and conditioned to shutdown early. Which may mean that like it or not, I have to start sleeping early every night if possible.

Bleh x 7!

Woes of a Night Bird

Aug 29 2005 Published by coolcat under At The Office

I am a nightbird. My brain appreciates the still and quiet of the night. It thinks clearly and reflectively then. Night is a time of relaxation, leisure and repose.

However, starting tomorrow, the Heads of Dept and senior staff of the firm are supposed to meet at 8am every Monday morning. Effectively, this will cut short on my normally lazy weekends. Bleh.

Q: How am I supposed to wake up half an hour earlier?
A: By sleeping earlier on Sun night lar.

And thus, at this insanely early hour of 10-ish in the night, I leave you all with a

So long farewell, auf weidersehen goodnight
I leave and heave a sigh and say good bye -
Goodbyyyyyyeeeee!

Patriotism

Saw this call to blog in Malay on our National Day (31 Aug) in Irene’s blog and thought, sounds like fun! Besides having nothing better to do, of course. And so I registered here. All you Malaysian bloggers who are feeling a wee bit patriotic can sign up there, too.

I don’t consider myself to be very patriotic. Ok, maybe just a tad. I still remember how to sing the national anthem and standing up in respect whenever it is played. And there was one Merdeka day where my bezzie and I took away to the East Coast and we yelled ‘Selamat Hari Merdeka!!!’ * to the every flag bearing motorcyclist who zoomed past our car.

And now, to heed the call to blog in our national language. Man, I’ve never felt more patriotic in my life. Heh.

Now, to brush up on my Malay.

* Selamat Hari Merdeka – Happy Independence Day

Whose Lips Are These?

Aug 27 2005 Published by coolcat under Humour

Lately, I’ve been associated with several famous and beautiful celebrities. Not because of my hair nor my eyes – they are most assuredly, one of a kind. It’s my lips that have arrested the attention of strangers who say, "Hey, you look just like Faye Wong! Errr… only the bottom half of your face, I mean."

To prove them wrong, I have here a selection of lips for you to choose from. Which of these are mine? Names of celebrities whom I share the same lip form-factor with and the correct answer shall be revealed later.

Please place your votes in the comments section. Thank you very much.

Magnetised

Aug 26 2005 Published by coolcat under Lurve

I thought things like this would happen in a library. But now that I think about it, it was close enough.

So there I was at Starbucks. Right in the heart of the Borders bookshop. Minding my own business. Actually, giving them business. The stuff there don’t come cheap.

And this dude who was taking my order made some slip-up. Actually, it was my fault. I changed my mind about the size of my ice-blended caramel frappucino but since ladies are known and even expected to be changing their minds every so often, it’s the dude’s fault lor. Besides, the customer is always right .

Anyway, he made a slip up and couldn’t adjust the amount. And lo and behold, he called the knight in green apron to the rescue.

I blinked in pleasant surprise when I first saw him. He wasn’t a stunner or anything but he looked just… right.

My heartbeat quickened when he uttered his first few words teaching the Starbucks trainee how to do his job. And shyly lowered my eyes when he left the dude with a "And next time, make sure you confirm the customer’s order before keying it in!"

I apologised to the poor trainee who manfully grinned and said, "No worries, it’s ok."

I paid up and went to collect my coffee at the counter where Mr. Magnetic was making my coffee. Mmmmm, I could spend hours looking at him blend my coffee in that cool and calm manner of his.

A Starbucks waitress then came up to him to ask a few things. Her face was completely blank and she looked totally unaffected by him. Wah, how can??

I wanted to ask her, "Girl, what’s wrong with you? Can’t you see that you are talking to a superb male specimen? Thou shall speaketh to him with an awestruck look and pay rapt attention to his every word. Not talk to him and glance at your watch like you can’t wait to leave in time to watch CSI or something."

What I would give to be in her shoes and get to chat with him every day. Man…

After I got my coffee and dreamily walked towards where my bezzie was sitting, I was struck by the absurdity of the whole situation. Of how we barely exchanged more than 10 words with each other. And of how un-Pierce Brosnan-like he looks. And yet every single cell in me felt drawn to some sort of magnet that he must be carrying. It was all very, very uncanny.

For those brief moments, I felt like I have taken leave of my senses.

What in the world happened back there?

Magnetism, that’s what.
