Two Books

I had Catherine Marshall’s omnibus (3-in-1) and Hannah Whitall Smith’s The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life on my breakfast table on Day #1 of my convalescence.

I picked them out from my library, thinking that my unexpected two-week break from the regular hum-drums of life should be invested in food for my soul. A random choice on my part perhaps, but it turns out that it didn’t happen by accident.

I picked up the Catherine Marshall book. This author and this 3-in-1 book hasvebeen my favourite since I got it in 1996 in Melbourne. I’m glad I’ve got it then for about AUD14.95 (RM28 then) for it has gone out of print. I’ve re-read it countless of times. The effects of our humid weather over the years have turned the pages yellow but it still remains one of my most treasured possesions. Her writings are so honest, so thought-provoking and heart-prodding.

One of the first sentences I read was that she would like to thank a few people in her life who had influenced her greatly. The first was Hannah Whitall Smith who wrote the book that right now lies on my breakfast table.

I laughed out loud in glee. My, my… no wonder I bought the Hannah W. Smith’s book like a shot at MPH the other day. At RM12.90, it was a bargain. Of course, the free e-book link I discovered today was really a steal. But nothing beats a hardcopy book, eh?

I knew someone recommended me Hannah’s book. But for the life of me, I couldn’t recall just who it was. Am tickled pink to be reminded that it was by one of my favourite Christian authors and hero. Isn’t it amazing the way God answers our most trivial thoughts and ponderings?

Thus, my interest in the secrets of a happy life peaked and I have been reading this best-selling book every morning to start the day.
