A Door Opens
Categories: Testimonies

Two Sundays ago, I bumped into J-son at the church library. He asked me if I would be interested to help out in the Christmas drama – probably playing the role of the lead actress’ best friend. It sounded cool to me so I agreed happily.

Last Mon, I got one of the biggest surpises in my life. J-son called and said that Sharon could not act this time around due to work commitments. “I’ve decided to cast you as the main actress. Would you be ok with that?” Would I?? Wow! After reading the script, I agreed and that was that.

But every now and then, I find myself still not believing that such a big role has landed on my lap – literally.

I’ve been acting and writing plays since school days. Back then, I was a very shy kid who could only express myself on stage and through my writings. Being cast for lead roles came easily to me – all the way to uni days. But when I started working, I found myself being more on the backstage – writing scripts and directing the cast. The door to acting as lead characters on stage was tightly shut.

The first time I heard about Punctuation Ministries being established in church, I got very excited. I really missed being involved in a drama and I auditioned for a role in the Phantom of the Chinese Opera. Guess what? I got the role of a house idol/demon. For a role that appears for less than 2 minutes, the amount of time it took to make me up was enormous (not to mention the amount of time and effort to take it off!). In the end, I looked positively garish and scary, which was great for the role. Even I got a fright seeing myself in the mirror. Heh!

After that, I got involved in script writing, assisting the director, managing the stage and finally directing a play itself. And also availing myself for any small roles that they need some warm body to fill in.

Back then, I sensed the Lord telling me when the door opens, it will happen without me doing anything about it. And when I least expect it, it did. I still can’t believe it…. Someone, pinch me!!!

That’s great news. Congratulations! I’ve never been in any plays except the normal short skits we used to have in Youth Fellowship. Heheheh. I bet you make a great actress. Go for it, gal!

Hmmm… the only online radio I listen to is Yahoo’s Launch Cast. It’s accessible when you install and run Yahoo! Messenger. Pretty good selection of songs from different genres including Christian Praise and Worship songs.

Thanks for sharing your insights. Am encouraged at how you nipped the malicious gossip conversation thread at the bud!
